If you are planning to apply for a green card under the EB-1A or EB-2 NIW categories, pay close attention to an important shift in verification practices.
Recommendation letters are now under increased scrutiny by U.S. consular officers and immigration authorities.
What is happening in practice
There are already real cases where:
authors of recommendation letters are contacted directly;
they are asked follow-up questions about the content of the letter;
they are asked to confirm their signature (including providing samples of their original signature);
What kind of questions may be asked
Individuals who signed the letter may be asked:
Did you personally sign this letter?
Is this your signature?
Did you write the text yourself, or were you provided with a draft?
Do you agree with what is stated in the letter?
How do you know the applicant?
Are you familiar with the applicant’s work described in the letter?
U.S. immigration authorities are increasingly strengthening their verification processes. That is why it is now especially important to work only with recommenders who genuinely know you, understand what they are signing, and can confidently confirm every statement in the letter. Approach this process responsibly.
Wishing you the best of luck and approval of your case!
